Jacques Mizzi has been announced as the third confirmed driver to compete in the 2013 Renault Clio Cup with Westbourne Motorsport.
The Malta-born charger will join James Colburn and Mike Bushell in the squad as they embark on an assault of all championships. For Mizzi it will be his first season in the series and the youngster feels he is in the right team to achieve his goals.
Mizzi said: “I am really looking forward to working with Westbourne Motorsport, I had talks with other teams but chose Westbourne due to the fact that they were a front running team last season. We have had a few days testing with the team and I pleased with the team’s help and attitude towards the coming season.”
British motorsport fans will be unfamiliar with the ‘Mizzi’ name due to the fact that this will be his competitve debut in a British series in 2013. The youngster has been dominating the Malta Karting championships in his home country and now looks to bring that form to the British Isles.
He said: “These last two years have been very successful for me after winning the Maltese Karting Championship and also competing in Italy so it is important to keep that momentum going. My father has supported me throughout and I have a lot to thank him for and we both decided that this is the direction we need to take.”
Even though it will be his first season in the championship, Mizzi is optimistic of his chances in one of the most competitive one make series in Europe.
He stated: “Following the testing session we conducted I am very happy with the choice of championship that I am competing in for 2013. I know that it will be a tough start because this series has shown how competitive it is in the past, but I truly believe that I will be in a position to run at the front and if I secure a victory at any point then I will be over the moon.”
Mizzi will join fellow drivers at the official Media Day for the Renault Clio Cup at Silverstone on the 21st March whilst the racing kicks off on Easter weekend (30th/31st March) at the Brands Hatch Indy circuit.
