Ollie Chadwick had a mixed start to the season at Brands Hatch in the opening rounds of the Ginetta Junior Championship last weekend.
The 16-year old Cheltenham schoolboy made a strong start moving from eighth to fifth in round one, by the time the pack had reached Paddock Hill Bend. Shortly after moving up to fourth ahead of George Gamble on lap three. Unfortunately the JHR Developments racer had to make a visit to the pits after the safety car period in order to fix the bonnet pins which had been damaged in a scuffle with Gamble after the restart.
“We were able to get a really good start in race one on the outside,” explained Chadwick. “I pushed hard and was able to get up to about fourth, before the safety car came out for about two or three laps. Unfortunately I hit the back of the car in front on the restart, which damaged the bonnet pins. We then had to take a pit stop which put us down a lap to finish about 11th.”
Round two proved slightly more fruitful for Chadwick as he made an excellent start moving from seventh into sixth position immediately in lap 1. By the end of the first lap Chadwick had improved on this still and was racing in fifth position.
“I was on the inside, in seventh,” said Chadwick. “I had another good start and got up to about fifth but then unfortunately we pretty much stayed there for the rest of the race really. Overall it went well, It was a bit hit and miss in places, we weren’t as quick as I would of liked in practice, so we struggled a little bit but it’s something to work on for Donington. I’m positive that we can go there and be quick.”
