Wood Thrilled With Points Scoring Finish

Lea Wood produced arguably the performance of the weekend by finishing seventh in the first race of the day at Oulton Park on Sunday in difficult wet conditions.

Wood, who was contesting his first BTCC meeting since the final round of last season, drove the BTC- spec Honda Integra, which is the oldest car in the field, from 21st on the grid into the points in what was one of the biggest shocks of the weekend and a real boost for his Central Group Racing team.

After the race he was clearly delighted. Speaking to btcccrazy, he said: “It was just unbelievable! Obviously we’ve got the oldest car on the grid and we’re the smallest team on the grid and we don’t have the money these boys have got. To come over the line in seventh place was just awesome and it’s all for the team.”

Wood also enjoyed the opportunity of going door handle to door handle with former double champion Matt Neal. Speaking to btcccrazy he said: “It was a superb feeling. He’s a top driver and they’re a top team (Honda/Dynamics). They’ve given me a lot of help with this car so that was just awesome to be able to race with them.”

With that result Wood has moved into 18th position in the championship standings despite having only contested one round. He will continue his campaign in two weeks’ time when the series heads north to Croft.
