Welch With Career Best 6th Place Finish

Dan Welch took his best ever finish in at Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race as he guided his Welch Motorsport Proton Persona to 6th place during race one at Oulton Park.

The Hampshire-based driver was pleased with his performance which saw him battle with the likes of Mat Jackson in the Redstone Racing Ford Focus for 5th place but just couldn’t make the move stick.

“The plan for race one was to have a sensible finish and we was always thinking that a 6th or 7th place finish would be great to to do that is fantastic,” said Dan Welch following the first race.

Welch, who is in just his second year in the BTCC and only his first full campaign after he made his debut mid-way through the season last year, bettered his previous career best finish which, before today, was a 10th place at Silverstone in the 2011 season finale.

“We were mainly looking after the tyres and the brakes to make sure that we got to the end but the car still had good pace at the end relative to those that I was racing with.”

“We’re working hard and for a small team with limited resources that have yet to complete a test day we’re not a million miles off from where we want to be.”
