Following the awful weekend at Knockhill which saw Mat Jackson come away from the Scottish circuit with no points scoring finishes the Henley-in-Arden racer was looking to bounce back as the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship headed to Rockingham Motor Speedway but that wasn’t to be.
Former Championship leader was feeling confident heading into the weekend but two DNF’s and a 13th place finish in the final race of the day meant that he would once again come away from a BTCC round with no points which has severely dented both his overall drivers championship and independent drivers championship title challenges.
Jackson held a small lead over James Nash prior to this weekend but a strong weekend from Nash means that Jackson now trails by 24 points with six races to go.
“I really didn’t think things could get any worse after Knockhill, but this weekend proved me wrong,” said Jackson “Even coming here we still had a chance of salvaging our challenge for the title and I just can’t believe we’ve had such a shocker again, it’s just is the way things are going at the moment. We’ve just got to knuckle down, focus and work hard as a team to finish as high up as we can. This is the way it goes sometimes in motorsport, but we never give up.”
