Team Hard, run by Tony Gilham, have today confirmed the purchase of two Vauxhall Insignia VXR-Rs from Thorney Motorsport confiming them as a two car team for 2013.
One of the cars will be run at the final BTCC round at Brands Hatch this weekend. While the other is in preparation for assembly over the winter.
Team Principal, Tony Gilham, who has enjoyed a few outings in he Insignia this season said “I knew the first time I drove the Insignia VXR-R that it was a great car and with our plans in place for next season we knew we wanted to be in the most competitive NGTC car possible and the Insignia it it. Our plan is to continue development over winter with the help of John and the guys at Thorney Motorsport and come out strong for the 2013 season.”
Thorney Motorsport team owner, John Thorne, admits it will be strange seeing their first race car in Team Hard colours but is delighted at the deal and is hoping to the see the Insignia on the podium next season.
Thorne said, “It’s always been our plan to build cars for other teams in the BTCC and this first deal is part of that plan. Tony has had some seat time in the car and loves it, so much so that he bought them both so that’s encouraging for us and demonstrates that we have built a pontentially competitive car.”
Thorney Motorsport will be at the final round at Brands Hatch this weekend to help Team Hard with set up advice and they plan to continue to help the team develop the car over the winter.
After a tough season for Thorney Motorsport, 2013 is looking better for them. The team have managed to secure major sponsorship partners with a two car team and are in the process of negotiating deals to supply the Vauxhall Insignia VXR-R to two other teams for them to race in 2013.
