Championship points leader Tom Ingram says he and Speedworks Motorsport are working hard to ensure they are in with a shout of challenging towards the top of the times in qualifying at Donington Park.
Finishing P17 and P8 in the respective two practice sessions in damp conditions, the Toyota Avensis driver will carry maximum success ballast into this afternoon’s battle for pole position, virtue of his lofty position in the standings – and he is optimistic that work in-between sessions will aid his cause.
“We’re working hard,” Ingram said. “Either I’m not driving to the level I am capable of or we haven’t quite fine-tuned the car as of yet.
“We made some big steps forward from FP1 to FP2 so hopefully we can do the same heading into qualifying. Being 1.1 seconds off of the fastest time in that last session isn’t ideal but we will keep going.
“Looking at the forecast this afternoon it looks as though it is going to stay dry so we will really see how we stack up alongside everyone else.
“Carrying 75kgs of success ballast obviously has a little bit of an effect as we aren’t able to carry the weight through the corner and maintain our momentum. It comes with the territory and we will make the best of it, let’s see where we end up in qualifying.”
