Championship leader Tom Ingram is focused on maintaining his consistent start to the season at Oulton Park on what will be a milestone weekend for him.
The opening 15-lap encounter around the 2.26 mile track will be Ingram’s 100th in the BTCC and with Speedworks Motorsport. Graduating as a triple Ginetta champion in 2014, the 23-year-old has since gone on to become a force to be reckoned with.
With two wins to his name already this season, Ingram produced a superlative display at Thruxton earlier in the month to take a brace of podiums despite not running anything lower than 48kgs of success ballast.
Extending his points lead to 17 virtue of his strong showing, Ingram heads to the teams local track having to lug the full 75kgs of weight into qualifying and race one. Despite the weight, the Toyota Avensis racer has his sights firmly set on bagging three solid points finishes as he bids to retain his title advantage.
Speaking to BTCC Crazy, Ingram said: “Over the winter we really made a big point of making sure we had the consistency to go along with the pace this year.
“So far this season we have achieved that and I am happy and proud to be leading the championship at this stage. Things are going well but I know that we will have to take a hit at some point – that’s touring cars.
“We’ve been maximising our good days and the circuits that suit us better so now it is going to be a case of perhaps minimising the damage around circuits that are suited to our rivals.
“Oulton Park is going to be a little bit of a step into the unknown but despite the weight, I’m confident that we can take the fight to the rear-wheel-drive cars and score some good points.”
Underlining how strong he has been over the course of the first nine races, Ingram needs just one more podium to equal his overall tally from 2016.
