Tom Chilton has his sights set firmly on taking Power Maxed Racing’s maiden BTCC victory at Brands Hatch after scoring a season-best qualifying of fifth.
Getting back behind the wheel of his Vauxhall Astra after missing Silverstone on medical grounds, the former race winner left it late in what was a frenetic pole position shootout to secure a third row starting spot.
Eclipsing his previous best of ninth, taken at Rockingham, Chilton is confident that he has the pace to challenge and take what would be his first victory in the series since Silverstone 2011.
“I’m really happy with that performance, it has been a long time coming,” Chilton told BTCC Crazy. “We’ve been really chipping away to improve the car. I think those refinements and my knowledge of Brands Hatch really came together.
“We left it late in the session but the lap was perfect. Everything came together at the right in terms of the tyres, etc.
“We’ve got some important guests joining us on race day and it is important that we show them what we are capable of.
“I kicked off the start of the season with a third and then Rob (Huff) got a third so I really want to complete the set and get that win. We’ve got a car that is more than capable of challenging at the front in race trim so I’ll be giving it everything I’ve got to end the season on a high and bring home a win.”
Chilton’s team-mate and this year’s Jack Sears Trophy winner Senna Proctor will line up P13 for round 28.
