Sam Tordoff confirms switch to British GT Championship

Sam Tordoff will compete in the British GT Championship in 2017 after confirming he will partner former BTCC driver Liam Griffin at Barwell Motorsport to pilot a Lamborghini Huracan GT3.

Following on from four years in the BTCC, Tordoff recently called time on his stint in Britain’s premier race series after a stellar final season upon which he finished runner-up to Gordon Shedden in 2016 – missing out on the title by a mere two points.

Having always expressed an interest to delve deeper into the world of GT racing after competing in the European Le Mans Series in recent years, the 27-year-old is relishing the next step of his career.

Tordoff said: “I am really excited about 2017 as I embark on a new career in GT Racing. It is something we have looked at pursuing for a while, and when this opportunity presented itself with Liam and Barwell Motorsport it was the perfect time to jump ship.

“I’ve known Liam for a long time and I think together in the Lamborghini we have all the tools in place to mount a serious title challenge.

“The British GT Championship is going from strength to strength and I am very aware of the expectations of the team to be at the sharp end of it – I cannot wait to get started!”
