Matt Neal will start tomorrow’s first race of the day from pole position after today’s qualifying session for round five of the 2012 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Croft.
The reigning champion was the only driver to go under the 1:25 mark as he posted a time of 1:24.900 in his Honda YUASA Racing Honda Civic, which was good enough to take pole by just over a tenth of a second.
Andrew Jordan in the Pirtek Racing Honda Civic will start alongside Neal after he managed the second fastest time of the session. He’ll start ahead of the other of the Honda YUASA Racing drivers who was separated by just 0.077 seconds.
Frank Wrathall staged a late charge in the session and put his Dynojet Toyota Avensis on the second row of the grid with his lap at the end of the allotted time. A time of 1:25.156 was good enough to displace Jason Plato by a mere 0.065 seconds. Plato’s MG KX Momentum Racing MG6 will start from 5th.
Elsewhere Rob Austin who returns to the series following his absence at Oulton Park qualified in 7th place in his Rob Austin Racing Audi A4 after his 1:25.410 which was half a second off the pace.
Another notable mention goes to Paul O’Neill. Paul, who is returning to the series after his last race during the last round of the 2011 season, could only manage 18th on the grid in only his first outing in an NGTC-specification car. He took to the wheel of the Speedworks Motorsport Toyota Avensis but was over 1.5 seconds off the pace of pole-man, Matt Neal.
