Despite a poor performance by his own admission during the latest round of the season at Knockhill, Alex MacDowall will look to bounce back in style as the Cumbrian youngster heads to Rockhingham for round eight of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.
The 20-year old, who already has two podium finishes to his name this season, believes that Qualifying will once again be key if he wants to come away with a good points haul at the Rockhingham circuit in his S2000-spec Chevrolet Cruze against the turbo cars in the field.
“I think Rockingham should be better for us than Knockhill was”, he commented, “Qualifying will be crucial once again because there are very few areas to overtake. The Cruze is a great car over the race distance and Rockingham is very tough on tyres so I’m hoping we can have a good weekend.”
MacDowall, who currently lies 9th in the championship standings, knows that the Chevrolet Cruze will be strong this weekend against the turbo cars but has to be wary of their pace on the long straights which Rockingham has to offer.
“The infield section is very tight and twisty, which should favour our car, but the long straight linking turn four of the oval round to the first hairpin will give a big advantage to the turbos. Rockingham is very flat though so hopefully they won’t be able to use their horsepower advantage quite so much. I am more eager than ever for good results after a bad weekend at Knockhill – don’t rule us out yet!”
You can watch all of the action from Rockingham on Sunday live on ITV4 from 11:30.
