Joint championship leader Jack Goff is predicting a tough weekend at Donington Park as he seeks to lament his position at the top of the points standings.
The MG Triple Eight Racing driver currently shares the points lead (37) with Honda’s Matt Neal after the first three races of the season at Brands Hatch on Easter Sunday, taking a career-equalling second place finish in the reverse grid encounter.
Now heading to Leicestershire with 66kgs of success ballast aboard his MG6 GT, the 24-year-old is realistic that qualifying and race one will be about damage limitation but is hopeful after that, he can once again feature on the podium.
Looking ahead to the weekend, Goff said: “The MG should suit Donington, however I think we will be up against it, certainly in the first two races due to the ballast we are taking into the weekend.
“Qualifying in the top ten has to be the main objective and race one will be a matter of dragging a result out of the car. Then from race two onwards I’ll be aiming to get that top step on the podium.
“I’m hoping to come away with a good haul of points again for the championship; I would like to lead the points still when we leave the track on Sunday evening.”
Despite taking a best finish of 11th in the BTCC around the 1.98 mile track since graduating to the series in 2013, Goff has fond memories of success around the circuit which uniquely sits under the flight path of East Midlands airport.
“I have won a few times around Donington Park in the Clio Cup so I know what it is like to win there, I really enjoy the circuit and the challenge it brings,” he explained.
“There are so many great corners but one of my favourites has to be the Craner Curves.”
Triple Eight Racing will also celebrate their 500th race in the BTCC in the opening encounter this weekend.
Qualifying for round four is scheduled to get underway at 15:35 and will be streamed live on the ITV website.
