Jack Goff is feeling confident of a strong qualifying session this afternoon at Donington Park, optimistic of the pace from the Eurotech Racing Honda Civic Type R.
The 26-year-old enjoyed a strong start to the weekend at the Leicestershire circuit, setting the second fastest time of opening practice.
With overnight rain and cold conditions making the 1.98 mile track a difficult one to get on top of to begin with, Goff was pleased with his performance but highlighted improvements are still to be made.
Speaking to BTCC Crazy, Goff said: “That opening session saw the track damp in places. To be fair I sat the first bit out and had a fun time sitting in the pits – it was very chilled out.
“I’m happy with the pace so far today. We have a few things to improve such as getting a bit more stability from the high speed sections. It was pretty lively through the Craner Curves.
“I think the fact that I have been out of front-wheel-drive for a season caught up on me a little bit. We struggled to turn the tyres on in the cold conditions so that is something I need to get on top of. At the moment though all the signs are good.”
Looking ahead to the second session of the day and qualifying later in the afternoon, the one-time race winner is setting his sights of further improvements and ultimately, the top five.
He added: I’m lighter than a lot of the top guys so we need to take advantage of that. We will continue working through our programme in race two and see what other improvements we can make to the car.
“Given that the current forecast tomorrow says it is going to rain, we have to be in the top five. The pace is in the car to achieve that and it will set us up for a good day tomorrow.”
