Jason Plato has taken pole position at Rockingham Motor Speedway in his KX Momentum Racing MG 6GT. His time of 1:22.448 was set in the opening ten minutes was not beaten for the remainder of the session.
His time was the fastest of the weekend, and continued a run of form for the Oxfordshire racer, who had set the fastest times in both Free Practice session.
Honda Racing’s Gordon Shedden was the closest rival to Plato in the 30-minute session, but his lap time was a distant 0.636 of a second away. Gordon Shedden is currently second in the championship, and starts four places ahead of his team-mate Matt Neal.
Driving with a broken hand, championship leader Matt Neal managed to take sixth place, which was damage limitation considering the fact that he was also carrying maximum ballast due to his championship position.
Andy Jordan took third position after holding second place for much of the session. His time was only 0.014 slower than that of Gordon Shedden’s.
Mat Jackson, who had suffered mechanical issues in the afternoon’s practice session managed fourth position in the new NGTC-spec Ford Focus.
Jason Plato’s team-mate further highlighted the MG 6GT’s pace this weekend by putting his car onto the front of the third row, in fifth.
