Team ES Racing have stated that they are looking for more success in 2013 after a stellar first season as a two car team in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.
Speaking at the final weekend at Brands Hatch, team principal and driver Chris James shared his overwhelming joy at how his team have conducted themselves in the 2012 season.
“We’ve had a fantastic season and if you had told me at the start of the year that we would claim a pole position, six podiums and two victories then I would have bit your hand off. The team have put a massive effort in with making sure the cars are bang on the pace.”
James had been running a sole Chevrolet Lacetti in the 2011 season but invested in the ex-Triple Eight Vauxhall Vectra’s that had won the championship a few years previous as well as bringing in experienced peddler Dave Newsham to the team.
“Buying a proven package which the Vectra is has been brilliant; we haven’t had to develop the car because Triple Eight got everything they could out of it and we have just adapted the set ups to suit our driving styles. Dave has been a wonderful addition to the team as he has great experience driving in different championships and his potential has been shown through the results he has achieved this season.”
With the announcement of the S2000 Cup for next season, it has given the Bedfordshire based principal a choice of whether to stick with the Vauxhall Vectra’s or move to new NGTC machinery.
“For Dave and I, we would like to move to NGTC machinery however it is all based on budget. With the introduction of the new competition it does allow us to maybe see if we can get some young blood in the Vectra’s and run a four car outfit for next year however that is a longshot but one that we will look into.”
James ended his season finishing 23rd in the championship whilst Newsham, with his two victories, ended his year in ninth place.
