Rob Collard has set the fastest time of the day in a competitive second Free Practice session at Knockhill. The fastest man in FP1, Gordon Shedden, managed second position and was well ahead of his championship rivals.
The session was interrupted after ten minutes by a trip into the gravel by Tom Onslow-Cole which brought out the red flags. The session was halted for five minutes, with the clock still counting down. Tom Onslow-Cole played no further part in the session and had only completed six laps, putting him in 18th. He had finished the first Free Practice session in second position.
Rob Collard in the eBay Motors BMW 320si set his time of 52.910 with a little over ten minutes of the session to go. This time was not a one-off, however, with the Hampshire driver consistently setting times close to his best throughout the rest of the session.
Gordon Shedden, who had lead much of the session, finished Free Practice 2 0.182 seconds behind Collard, with Newsham’s ES Racing Vauxhall Vectra trailing him in third by another tenth.
Andy Jordan improved on his FP1 time and finished the session in fourth, with Nick Foster finishing well once again in fifth, continuing a competitive afternoon for BMW drivers.
Championship contenders Matt Neal and Jason Plato ended the session tenth and fourteenth respectively; the latter only completing 17 laps of the 1.27 mile circuit (most drivers completed between 22 and 30).
Elsewhere, Chris James suffered a setback when his driveshaft failed early in the session – he finished at the bottom of the timesheet; the same position in which he ended Free Practice 1.
