Collard: “Faster Than We Predicted”

Rob Collard will head into the first race of the day at Oulton Park in Round Four of the 2012 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship having qualified third on the grid in his eBay Motors BMW 320si.

The 43-year-old, who has led the most laps in the championship so far this season, will be looking to take his second win of the season after his first win at the opening round of the campaign at Brands Hatch.

“I’m very pleased,” said Collard. “We actually went a little bit faster than we predicted.”

Rob’s time of 1:26.989 was just 0.117s shy of the pole sitting time of Jason Plato and was one of just three drivers to dip under the 1 minute 27 second mark. The time was also under the current qualifying lap record which is now held by Jason Plato.

Rob went on to say, “We felt that we could have possibly gone a little quicker if we had more laps but it just took a little longer than we expected to get the tyres up to temperature.”

“What was happening was people were going off and because the grass was so wet the drivers were dragging water back onto the track. Coming into Cascades and Old Hall and there would be water all over the track which would ruin your lap.”
