Colin Turkington will head to Rockingham with a four-point lead in the BTCC after taking a trio of podiums at Knockhill this weekend.
The Team BMW driver arrived in Scotland trailing defending champion Gordon Shedden by two points and produced a virtuoso display at a circuit well-suited to the BMW 125i M-Sport.
Qualifying on the second row, Turkington shadowed the Team BMR pairing of Jason Plato and Ashley Sutton in races one and two before delivering a third podium in a frenetic final encounter.
“It has been a great weekend – possibly my best of the year,” Turkington told BTCC Crazy. “Given how competitive the championship it is difficult to really to put those sorts of performances together.
“Although we don’t necessarily have the ultimate pace I was able to make the most of the opportunities that were available. One of them was Rob running wide in that final race.
“Sometimes you have to have the cards fall your way and they did for us this weekend. I’ll sleep well tonight but I understand we had to do well on a circuit that played into the characteristics of the car.”
Heading to Rockingham with 75kgs on-board his rear-wheel-drive machine, the Northern Irishman is remaining realistic on how he will fare.
He said: “There is still work to do. We won’t know until practice where we are compared to our rivals but it should be a relatively strong track for us. We’ve gone well there in the past with this car.”
