Colin Turkington quietly confident as he heads to happy hunting ground

Colin Turkington is feeling quietly confident heading to Oulton Park this weekend, a track that in the past has been a happy hunting ground for both himself and West Surrey Racing.

Taking his second win of the season earlier this month at Thruxton, the Team BMW driver heads north sitting third in the drivers’ championship and trailing leader Tom Ingram by 19 points.

Heading into a phase of the season where many are expecting the rear-wheel-drive cars to come to the fore, Turkington is remaining coy on how he and his WSR team-mates will fare.

Down the years Oulton Park has been a venue where the Northern Irishman has enjoyed huge success, taking seven wins and an additional six podiums since debuting in 2002. With an impressive hit rate at the popular venue, the double champion is relishing taking to the track.

Looking ahead to the fourth event of the season, Turkington told BTCC Crazy: “Confidence is high at the moment in the team after the good results we have been having.

“We head to Oulton Park aiming to do our best but it isn’t guaranteed that rear-wheel-drive cars will have it all their own way. Nothing is easy in the BTCC as we know so anyone can be on the pace come the weekend; we just need to continue working hard to make sure we are in the mix.

“Down the years I’ve had some great results at Oulton Park and I really enjoy the challenge it presents, it is my favourite circuit we visit. We’ve been very consistent so far but perhaps haven’t been too standout, the aim is to continue our strong start to the season

“Podiums and even a third win of the year has to be the main aim.”
