Colin Turkington heads into this afternoon’s qualifying session full of confidence after setting the fastest time of the day at Knockhill in second practice.
The Team BMW driver set a best time of 52.336 around the Fife circuit to head the field as rear-wheel-drive cars underlined the threat they potentially pose over the rest of the weekend.
Speaking to BTCC Crazy, Turkington said: “It was a good second session. You’re finding a little bit every lap and growing in confidence out there.
“The red flag in the closing stages seemed to be more psychological rain than anything else. My tyres were still up to temperature by the time we got back out on track so that is why I was able to set that time so late.
“We seem to be in a strong position but there is still work to be done before we get back out on track.”
Looking ahead to qualifying, the double champion has his sights set on pole position but admits it will be far from easy to achieve.
“Pole position is the aim but whether it is achievable is another matter altogether,” he explained. “This is always the closest qualifying of the season so it is obviously going to be very close. Finding space on track is going to be tough but there is no reason why we can’t be in the mix.”
Qualifying is scheduled to begin at 16:10.
