Rob Austin and Aiden Moffat have been confirmed as two of six BTCC drivers that will compete in a unique Motorsport News-backed Touring Car Drivers’ Hot Rod Challenge.
Set to be held in Ipswich on Saturday 13th June prior to the highly regarded Thunder 500 race, Austin and Moffat will join four other current BTCC drivers, who are yet to be confirmed, as they battle it out to see who will reign supreme in the Hot Rod stakes.
Swapping his Exocet Alcosene-backed Audi A4, two-time race winner Rob Austin will drive Mike Godfrey’s T and B Motors Vauxhall Tigra in what will be his first foray into Hot Rod discipline of racing.
Austin told Motorsport News: “National Hot Rod racing is thrilling, and this will be a great chance to sample it first-hand.
“The cars are proper bits of kit and to be allowed at the controls of on will be special. I am going to enjoy this.”
For Laser Tools Racing driver Moffat, his weapon of choice for the event will be Danny Fiske’s Nimbus Meede and Fiske Tigra.
Having started his racing career in oval racing, the Scotsman is relishing the opportunity to once again take to the circuits he grew up competing on.
Moffat explained: “Short oval racing is how I started, I used to go to Cowdenbeath and Lochgelly. It is a privilege that the Hot Rod guys are lending us the cars just before the biggest meeting of the season, the World Final, but it is going to be an experience.
“I hope I can perform well and as soon as you put the helmet on, you want to win. I hope we can help spread the profile of short oval racing ever further.”
