BMR Racing have confirmed that Ashley Sutton will return to defend his Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship in 2018, once again driving a Subaru Levorg.
Bidding to make it back-to-back championships in the series, the 23-year-old is set to don the mantel of number one on his rear-wheel-drive machine.
Sutton emerged as the man to beat in 2017 after making the ump from MG Triple Eight Racing, all in his second season in the BTCC.
Taking six wins and a further nine podiums, the former Jack Sears Trophy winner held his nerve to emerge victorious over nearest rival Colin Turkington.
Speaking on returning as champion, Sutton said: “I am pleased to be back on the grid for the 2018 season with Team BMR and back behind the wheel of my championship winning Subaru Levorg!
“Last year is going to stick with me, it was a roller coaster of a season but one that’s going to sit well in the memory bank.
“I wouldn’t have been able to get where I am now if it wasn’t for all my sponsors and for the BMR Academy that have supported me from the beginning.”
Having played a pivotal role in bringing Sutton to the BTCC, BMR boss Warren Scott expressed his delight at being able to re-sign the Essex-based racer.
Scott added: “We’re delighted and extremely proud that Ash will be carrying the number one on his Subaru Levorg for 2018 and we are very excited about the 60th Anniversary season ahead.
“With Ash wrapping up the Driver’s Championship last year we will be looking to defend that title along with launching a full assault on clinching the Manufacturers title for Subaru along with the overall Team’s Championship.”
Further announcements in the coming weeks are expected from BMR Racing surrounding the remaining drivers and sponsors.
