Aron Taylor-Smith full of optimism as MG play catch up in testing

Aron Taylor-Smith is confident that MG Racing RCIB Insurance will be in a strong position at the 2017 curtain-raiser despite the team playing catch up in testing.

Joining Daniel Lloyd at Triple Eight Racing for the new season, the four-time race winner hit the track for the first time behind the wheel of the MG6 GT at Donington Park only last week.

Despite gaining valuable seat time later than planned, the Irishman clocked 40 laps around the Leicestershire venue and was left full of optimism surrounding the progress that has already been made.

“Everything is going well,” said Taylor-Smith to BTCC Crazy. “We are playing catch up to a lot of teams in terms of testing but I am confident that we will be in a good position come the first round at Brands Hatch.

“At Donington Park it was the first time to really get to grips with the car as we only got a shakedown earlier in the week. We cycled through our programme but seeing what the ultimate pace was like didn’t enter our minds. It was more focused on working on set-ups, etc.

“There is a great team at MG Triple Eight and given the work that has gone into the car over the winter, we will be in good shape.”

Following the official pre-season test last week, MG went on to Snetterton to continue their preparations.
