Aron Smith has praised Team BKR for the hard work they have had to put in heading into the run-up of the opening 2016 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship meeting at Brands Hatch.
In what was a surprise announcement at the annual Season Launch last month, Team BKR secured an eleventh-hour deal to make their debut in the series with a pair of Volkswagen CC’s. Running as a satellite outfit for Team BMR, BKR made waves with Smith clinching a podium in race three to make it a maiden event to remember.
Leaving the Kent circuit tied fourth in the points standings, the three-time race winner has heralded the intense and rapid work that has been put in by everyone involved to ensure they could compete in rounds one, two and three.
“Everyone at Team BKR deserves a huge amount of credit,” Smith told BTCC Crazy. “I would say that the team have had roughly two to three days to complete a full winter rebuild – which when you really think about it is crazy. They have worked all hours to make sure we were in a position to race, let alone be competitive so to get a podium on the teams debut is brilliant.
“For me this is a great start to the season; I was confident that the car would be strong. I feel comfortable as it is the same car from last year and being under the same roof as Team BMR has been a big help; the likes of Warren Scott and Nico Ferrari deserve a pat on the back for making sure this came together. Not making the switch to the RML parts seems to be working for us at the moment too.”
Heading to Donington Park in just over one weeks time, the Irishman is confident that the team can continue to push forward once again and remain a constant threat inside the top ten.
He explained: “We will be able to actually prepare as we would like to going into Donington Park because everything was a bit rushed heading into Brands Hatch. The team is mega and the car felt good but we can improve and hopefully that will come in the
“I’m looking forward to really getting into the role of team leader as well. It is something new to me but my knowledge of the car and the resources we have behind us should put us in good shape.”
