Andrew Jordan is setting his sights on capturing the 2017 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship title after confirming will join West Surrey Racing having inked a two-year-deal with the BMW outfit.
Splitting from Motorbase Performance after a single season, the 27-year-old will help spearhead the Sunbury-based challenge for silverware in both 2017 and 2018. Running under the Pirtek Racing banner for the eighth successive campaign will also once again mean Jordan will run with an undoubtedly striking livery on the rear-wheel-drive machine.
Having kept a keen eye on the performance of the BMW 1-Series in recent years and putting together the deal in no time at all, the Red Bull athlete is excited to embark on the next chapter of what has already been a storied career to date.
“Once it became clear that I wouldn’t be staying with Motorbase for a second season, we considered the options that were available,” said Jordan. “After speaking to Dick Bennetts, there was very quickly no doubt in my mind that West Surrey Racing was where I wanted to be.
“WSR is a team that has enjoyed huge success in the past with some of the most famous names in motorsport, and my aim is to be part of the successes they still have to come.
“It was an incredibly easy deal to do and to have signed up for two years is fantastic not only for myself, but also for Pirtek and my other sponsors, as we know there is the continuity to build something special across the next two years. The opportunity to work closely with a brand like BMW is also extremely exciting and something I am looking forward to.”
Keen to add a second title to his name following his championship triumph in 2013, the Red Bull athlete has hinted that testing is set to begin before Christmas as he seeks to make the transition from front to rear-wheel-drive as quickly as possible.
Jordan concluded: “It’s been clear to see in recent years how good the BMW package is and I can’t wait to get behind the wheel to start testing, which will hopefully be before the end of the month.”
The livery of the Pirtek Racing BMW 125i is set to be launched at a later date.
