Aiden Moffat has hailed his maiden BTCC victory ‘a very special’ feeling after he triumphed in the opening encounter of a dramatic Donington Park race day.
Having qualified his Laser Tools Racing Mercedes A-Class in fourth, Moffat produced a standout performance in round four to scythe his way to the front and then build up a comfortable lead as all-out action ensued behind him.
Crossing the line more than a second ahead of Matt Neal, the youngest driver in the BTCC history raised the roof at the Leicestershire as he became the latest person to enter the series’ winners circle.
Reflecting on a momentous weekend, Moffat said: “It’s a very special feeling – I won’t be forgetting this moment anytime soon! The Laser Tools Racing car was absolutely brilliant.
“We’ve had a great set-up all weekend, so I was feeling confident and knew we had the pace. I might even ask my dad for a day off tomorrow but I doubt that’ll be happening! The guys gave me a brilliant car so it made my job a hell of a lot easier.
“It felt great out there so I just had to get my head down and drive how I know I can, and it all came together nicely to get that first win. It was great to bounce back after Brands Hatch and be at the sharp end of the field, where we know we can be consistently.”
Carrying 75kgs of success ballast into race day, the Scotsman man tumbled down the order to finish 14th in race two before climbing back up to eighth in a sodden final race.
Virtue of his strong weekend Moffat now heads into the next round of the 2017 campaign sitting 12th in the overall standings.
