Alex MacDowall will jump into the NGTC powered Ford Focus on Wednesday as he looks to test with Motorbase ahead of the 2012 season.

MacDowall, who is the youngest ever pole-sitter in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship after his qualifying victory at Snetterton in 2010 in the RML Chevrolet Cruze, is yet to announce his plans for the 2012 season and admits that there’s not much time to do it either.

“The drive with Motorbase is really the only option available to me in BTCC now for this season, so it’s all down to Wednesday whether I will remain in the championship,” said the youngster speaking to Autosport.

However MacDowall has other options open to him and may follow in the footsteps of Team Aon and Special Tuning in migrating over to the world scene. “The other option is to join RML in the WTCC, in their fourth car. The main thing is, I don’t want to be sat around scratching my head for nine months.”

“I wouldn’t say BTCC is the better option, but it is the same price to enter the WTCC, as it is to do 30 races in BTCC,” said MacDowall.
