Clio Cup Hits Rockingham For Winter Series

Darren Wilson (GBR) 20Ten Racing Limited Renault Clio Cup

The final action of 2011 for the Renault Clio Cup sees them head to Rockingham in Northamptonshire for the Renault Clio Trophy, part of the BARC Winter Series lineup.

While the turnout is small, there are a few recognized names taking part. The only established Clio Cup UK driver present is Team Pyro’s Adam Bonham.  During Friday practice he was consistently fast setting the pace in all three session, with the fastest time of the day coming during session two at 1:30.452. Bonham took this pace through to Saturday mornings qualifying session by setting a pair of pole positions in the difficult conditions.

Second quickest overall on Friday was Aaron Williamson running with 20Ten Racing, better known for his entry in this years Ginetta Supercup. Williamson was the only other driver to dip below the 1:31 barrier with a 1:30.923 in the second session. Williamson also found himself on the front row for both Saturday races, with his best time 1:42.628.

Third in practice, and third in qualifying was another Ginetta name, Jake Giddings better known from this seasons Ginetta Junior Championship. Setting consistent times throughout Saturday, the tricky Saturday conditions saw him qualify for race one just over a second down on the pole time of Bonham.

Returning to Clio action with TCR is Andy Jordan. The last time we saw Jordan, his weekend ended in spectacular fashion at Snetterton after a massive crash, but he’s back for another outing in the Winter Series. Unable to match the quicker times, he found himself fifth fastest during Fridays practice sessions, while qualifying down in sixth for the first race.
