Newsham Takes Career Best Result In Race One
Dave Newsham was delighted with his race one performance as he took his career best finish in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship with his 6th place finish.
Newsham, who drives for the Special Tuning Racing team, drove a solid race to beat his previous best of 7th, which came at Snetterton earlier in the season, to guide his SEAT Leon into 6th place ahead of Andrew Jordan whom he tangled with late on in the race.
“Fantastic race. I loved it.” Dave Newsham went on to say, “The plan was just to stay out of trouble and let the race come to me and basically stay on the track whilst others were going off it.”
“I was quicker than [Andrew] Jordan and with five laps to go I made a dive down the inside and he closed the door after I committed. Unfortunately that put me on the grass and I hit him which put him in a spin but I got past and that’s all that matters.”
The second race of the day will start with Dave Newsham starting from 6th on the grid and the Scottish-based driver looks confident of scoring yet more points in the final races of the season.
“We’ll be using the same tactics that worked in the first race,” said Newsham. “I’ll just stay out of trouble, keep it on the track and then see where we are come the end of the race.”
