Plato Wins And Re-Takes Championship Lead

Plato race 2

It was another perfect race for the two-time British Touring Car Champion as Jason Plato led from the front to take his second win of the day and with it move to the top of the championship with four races in the championship remaining.

Starting from pole position with maximum ballast Jason Plato never looked back as he pulled out an unassailable lead of nearly two seconds over the chasing pack and take 17 points from the race which moves him seven points clear in the championship and sees him return to the top for the first time since the first round of the season at Brands Hatch back in April.

“Were having a fantastic day,” said Plato. “The car has been perfect.”

“We’ve hardly changed anything from race one and two to improve the balance of the car. We had an extra 18kgs in that race but I think that’s a legacy of last year where we did a lot of our development work with the ballast on the car so we know how to make the car work.”

Mat Jackson made it two second place finishes out of two after he fended off the challenges from Tom Onslow-Cole and, once again, kept his title hopes alive with only four races of the season left to go.

Paul O’Neill finished in the points once again after coming home in 5th ahead of the turbo-Vauxhall Vectra of James Nash.

The drives of the race have to the two Honda Racing drivers of Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden. Starting from 18th and 19th on the grid it took the pair just one lap to break into the top ten in their turbo-powered Honda Civic’s. The pair came home with Neal in 7th and Shedden in 8th and with it scoring vital points for the championship following a disappointing race one.

Andy Neate made it three Team Aon Ford Focuses in the top ten for the second time of the day after he finished ahead of Nick Foster in 10th.

It was a disappointing day for Alex MacDowall after he suffered an engine blow out going along the Cooper Straight. After starting from 3rd on the grid the 20-year old held a respectable 4th place until engine problems put him out of the race.

The reverse grid draw was made and the top ten drivers are reversed for the third and final race of the day. That means that Nick Foster will start on pole position with Gordon Shedden and Matt Neal alongside each other on the second row of the grid. Jason Plato will start from 10th.
