Pirtek Commit To NGTC Regulations For 2012
Pirtek Racing became the second team in a week to commit to their plans for the 2012 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship as Andrew Jordan announced that he and the team will switch to the full NGTC-specification regulations next season.
The 23-year old, who is currently still in with a chance of taking the overall drivers championship title this season (albeit only mathematically), spoke to btcc.net and said, “I can’t go into too much detail yet about which car but our Vectras are up for sale. We should be able to make an announcement in about three weeks.”
“Pirtek has also agreed to remain our primary sponsor through to the end of 2013 at least which we are delighted with – they really see the value of promoting their brand through competing in the BTCC, are both hugely enthusiastic and pro-active about the project and are just the perfect team partner.”
Jordan, who will be in his fifth season in the BTCC next season, has already proven himself on the BTCC stage by taking his tally of race wins up to three with a victory at Donington Park earlier on in the season and a steady points haul at each weekend has seen him climb up to 6th in the overall standings.
Currently there are four Next Generation Touring Cars in the championship this season. They include the two Toyota Avensis’ of Frank Wrathall and Tony Hughes as well as the Audi A4 and Proten Gen-2 of Rob Austin and Dan Welch respectively. The NGTC-spec cars have also just started to come into their own with both Wrathall and Austin scoring second place finishes last time out at Rockingham Motor Speedway during round eight of the season.
Speaking about the NGTC-specification cars, Jordan said, “The NGTC cars that have appeared this season are now really starting to come on very strongly – the signs were there even before the mid-season break. They’re only going to develop even more between now and next season and in this game you can’t sit still for a second.”
