Jordan On Back Foot In Title Race
Heading into round eight of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, Andrew Jordan was within touching distance of the lead in the Independent Drivers Championship in his Pirtek Racing Vauxhall Vectra, however a poor weekend which saw him only pick up six Independent points has put him on the back foot with only six races remaining in the season.
The 22-year old, who has already taken one outright race victory this season, started the first race well but a collision with the Honda Civic on Gordon Shedden put the Sutton Coldfield racer out of the race.
“I was just comfortable sitting there and looking after the tyres,” said Andrew. “I ran a bit deep at the Hairpin and Gordon Shedden got underneath me. So I planned to just tuck in behind him, but he gave me a good whack on the left front wheel, which broke the steering rack. In the time we’ve been racing the Vauxhall Vectra, we’ve never broken a steering rack, so the contact was a bit too hard for my liking.”
The DNF meant that Jordan would start the second race from last on the grid and could only manage to salvage 13th place. He came home in eight place in the final race of the day but with main rival, James Nash, winning the race he slipped further out of contention for the title.
“If it wasn’t for Shedden in the first race it could have been a pretty good day because our race pace was good,” said Jordan. “But it ended up being frustrating because you are on the back foot all day then.”
The next race of the season is at Brands Hatch on October 1st and 2nd.
