Gamble Gets The Top Step Of The Podium For Race Two

George Gamble

Gamble finally gets the result he’s been after all weekend, as he takes the chequered flag to win race two at the Knockhill Circuit in Fife, Scotland.

Like a repeat of the first race on Saturday, Gamble got a great start off the line as they entered into the first corner, and managed to keep first position up until lap four, when Tollbar Racing with Wired’s Tom Howard saw his opportunity to sneak past the TJ Motorsport Ginetta as they headed into Clark’s. Unfortunately, this was short-lived for Howard, as he was punished with a drive-through penalty as he was said to have made a false start on the grid.

The Tollbar driver then took to the pits at the end of lap six, giving Gamble the extra breathing space he needed to work on increasing his ‘free air’ between himself and the rest of the pack.

While this was going on at the front, behind was where the real action was taking place. A fantastic battle between Sennan Fielding, Niall Murray, Charlie Robertson and Struan Moore was unfolding as they were all fighting it out for good point finishing positions.

Christie Doran, who was making her motorsport debut at Knockhill, took an unfortunate excursion off the track as she spun at Scotsman, bringing out the safety car for three laps in total.

As the race got back underway on lap 10, Gamble got the perfect re-start under his belt and went for it, leaving Fielding on the back foot, which allowed young Robertson to pass him for second place on the way into Leslie’s and Scotsman. Unfortunately for Robertson, just as he thought his luck was in, he was tapped at the hairpin dropping him back down into eighth place.

With all of this going on behind him, Gamble could ease away at the front and keep putting in solid laps, pulling out a fantastic 3.4 second gap between him and Struan Moore sitting in a great second place position. Niall Murray was in third being closely followed by the current championship leader Seb Morris.

As they entered into the final lap of race two, Gamble had done all he had to, and more, to securely take the win by 2.864 seconds. Second place went to an utterly elated Moore, his best points win so far this season and third was to be had by Robertson, after a well hard-fought race by the youngest driver in the 2011 season.

Fourth went to Murray in the Beacon Racing Ginetta and fifth was to be had by Declan Jones, making this his most impressive drive in his career so far. And rounding out the top six, sixth place went to current championship leader Morris, who had a quite a testing race, after a couple racing incidents saw him right down the back of the pack, resulting in him having to make up as many places as he could throughout the race.

Rounds 15 and 16 of the Ginetta Junior Championship will take place at Rockingham in Northamptonshire over the weekend of 17th/18th September.
