Caine Steps Aside For Parish At Knockhill

Michael Caine has given up his drive for the weekend to allow Motorbase Performance team mate Steve Parish to maintain his bid for the Pro-Am2 championship title.

Parish was involved in a practice accident yesterday with Keith Webster that severely damaged both of their cars and consequently ended their weekends. However, Caine, who is out of championship contention in the Pro category of the Carrera Cup decided to offer Parish the use of his car for qualifying and the two races to allow him to keep his chances of Pro-Am2 honours alive.

Parish, who was initially reluctant to accept the offer, said: “It is a measure of the kind of guy he is. He’s helped me so much in the three years I’ve been racing and as soon as I got back to the pits after the accident he offered me the use of his car.”

Caine said: “It’s more about the team than me. I would always offer my car to one of the Motorbase drivers in the same situation. We go racing as a team.”

Team boss David Bartrum was grateful to Caine for making such a magnanimous sacrifice. He said: “Michael has a very special relationship with Motorbase and he works with all of our drivers; this gives Steve a chance in Pro-Am2.”
