Marino Franchitti to make Ginetta debut at Knockhill

BTCC 2011 Snetterton

Marino Franchitti will make his Ginetta début at the Knockhill round of the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup this weekend driving a Ginetta G55 guest car run by Total Control Racing (TCR).

The younger brother of three time IndyCar champion Dario Franchitti will return to Scottish racing for the first time in over 10 years.

“I can’t express how much I’m looking forward to racing again in my home country, it’s been 10 years since I last competed in Scotland and it’s going to be great to be in front of the Scottish fans again. Marino said

Knockhill has changed a lot in that time so it’s going to be almost like learning a new track, but having worked there when I was younger, it shouldn’t take too long for me to find my way around.”

Ginetta Chairman Lawrence Tomlinson expressed his delight in welcoming Marino into the Ginetta camp in what will be his first ever experience in a Ginetta machine.

“Marino is an established and successful GT driver, both home and abroad. The G55 Cup car he will be driving  will be his first time in a Ginetta of any sort, I’m sure given his experience it won’t take him long to adapt to the car. With Ginetta’s plans for next year’s championships alongside a new GT3 car I’m sure we will be seeing more of Marino in the future. I have known Marino for a long time, the Scottish motorsport fans are so passionate about racing and there is always a fantastic atmosphere up in Dunfermnline so I’m thrilled he will be making his Ginetta debut in front of his home crowd next weekend.”

Looking towards his début Marino went on to say.

“I have to thank Ginetta and especially Lawrence Tomlinson for making this possible, it’s something we’ve talked about me doing for a long time and I’m so happy everything has come together to make it finally happen.”

Live coverage of race day can be seen on Sunday on ITV4 from 11:30am until 6:00pm.
