Jackson Leads Close Championship After Snetterton
Following an action packed weekend of great racing at the new Snetterton 300 layout it was Mat Jackson that came away at the top of the championship following his two six place finishes and a race win to see him lead by eight points after six round of the season.
The weekend didn’t start so well for the Henley-in-Arden racer who had to start from 13th on the grid, which was his worst qualifying position of the season, but good race craft allowed him to finish the first race of the day in 6th and subsequently followed that up with another sixth place finish.
Mat was then fortunate enough to capitalise on the reverse grid system which reversed the top seven drivers putting Mat on the front row of the grid for the final race. Mat quickly dispatched the SEAT of Dave Newsham and took the win and the championship lead.
The championship lead had changed hands for the third time today with Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden both holding the top spots at points during the weekend before Jackson ended the day as championship leader.
Jackson now holds an eight point lead ahead of Shedden with Matt Neal a further two points back. Jason Plato has come into contention following his three podium finishes and lies just 20 points adrift of Jackson with four more rounds and twelve races still to contest this season.
