Wrathall Sets Best Ever NGTC Qualifying Position
Frank Wrathall is delighted with his performance in qualifying for round six of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship as he takes 7th place on the grid for the first race of the day tomorrow at Snetterton, Norfolk.
His lap time of 1:59.084 was just 0.393 seconds off the pace of the time set by pole sitter Jason Plato and beats the Lancastrians previous best qualifying position by 10 positions and in turn becoming the first NGTC car in the top 10.
Speaking about his lap Wrathall Jnr. said, “I’m absolutely made up. It was a real good lap and I was able to show exactly what we are capable of. We were struggling to get into teens in qualifying before this so to be 7th is a great improvement.”
The Dynojet Toyota Avensis also showed it’s improvement in speed as it crossed all three speed traps as the fastest car but Frank pointed out that it’s not all about straight line speed in touring cars but is pleased about the progress that they have made as a team.
“The speed traps don’t always represent a fast lap time as theres more to a fast lap than just straight line speed but it certainly helps at a track like this with the two long straights,” added Wrathall.
“I’ve got a good car under me and everything about it is getting better and better after every session. I know we’ve got more to come but to be so close to pole position on such a long circuit it’s really pleasing.”
