Poor tyre choice for Morris leaves Robertson to steal the show

Seb Morris

Seb Morris’ reign of being at the top of the Ginetta Junior Championship came to an end this weekend, due to a poor choice of tyre change in qualifying, leaving Charlie Robertson to dominate on the track.

Due to the weather conditions at Croft circuit in North Yorkshire, Morris decided to change his set up to wet weather tyres half way through the session. Unfortunately for the Hillspeed driver, this wasn’t to be a good option, leaving him unable to fight upfront with the likes of Robertson, George Gamble, Jake Giddings and Tom Howard for pole position.

With the front runners getting away from him, Morris could only manage 11th position on the grid for race one, and 14th position for race two. But, with Morris back down the pack, this meant that HHC driver Robertson could really shine, and show off his full potential to award him with his first pole positions of the season.

Not only did he manage to gain pole position for race one with a 1m39.491 second lap time and a 0.113 second gap from second place sitter George Gamble, he also managed to secure pole for race two also with a time of 1m39.600 seconds.

Another driver to shine in qualifying was TJ Motorsport’s Gamble, who managed to line up beside Robertson for both races, giving him a good opportunity to attack for the top podium position. Brad Bailey, who also drives for TJ Motorsport had a good qualifying session seeing him on the grid in third position for both races.
