Speedworks Sit Out Croft
Tony Huges will once again miss a round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship as the Speedworks Motorsport team look to find a fix for it’s reoccurring steering problem on the NGTC Toyota Avensis.
Problems have hampered the 54-year-old Cheshire driver for much of the season which saw him miss the third round of the season at Thruxton but he and the team believe that missing the next round of the season at Croft this weekend is the best plan of action for the long term.
“It’s the right decision,” said team manager, Christian Dick, speaking to Northwich Guardian, the local newspaper.
This decision comes off the back of Tony’s and the teams best result of the season after a 14th place finish in race two at the local Oulton Park circuit. Tony’s 14th place gives the Speedworks team 7 points in the Independent teams championship and puts them ahead of the other NGTC Toyota team of Dynojet.
“We’ve looked at how things went at Oulton Park and, while the car felt better there, it’s still not perfect. I’d prefer to wait for a 100% fix and I’m hopeful that will happen in the next couple of weeks.”
Dick and the team are awaiting confirmation from GPR, the company who built the NGTC-spec Toyota Avensis, that they have a fix to their re-occurring problems.
“That would put us in a good position ready for the next round at Snetterton [in August] as we’ll be able to do plenty of testing beforehand.”
“Everybody is in a positive frame of mind after our home round and we want to protect that.”
