Morris does it again, making it his sixth win this season

Seb Morris (GBR)

Seb Morris adds another trophy to his collection as he wins race one at his home circuit, Oulton Park.

Before the race even began, there was already trouble on the track for Tom Howard in his Tollbar Racing G40, who had to pit due to mechanical problems before he got lined up on the grid ready for the lights to go out. Luckily, he was able to start from the pit lane.

As the race got underway, Morris didn’t have a great start off the line, but still managed to hold off second position runner George Gamble as they went into the first corner.

For the first two laps, Morris and Gamble were running bonnet to bumper, but as they entered into lap three, Morris started pulling away from the TJ Motorsport Ginetta and opening up a gap to allow him some breathing space from the pack behind.

Although Morris was pulling away, Gamble found himself coming under increasing pressure from HHC Motorsport’s Charlie Robertson and FML’s Jake Giddings.

As the cars went into lap four, Robertson seemed to just keep finding more pace, and saw his opportunity to attack for second position, seeing an opportunity at the Hairpin to sneak past Gamble to snatch the place.

With Gamble trying to attack to regain his second place position, he found himself coming under attack from fourth place sitter Giddings, and at Knickerbrook on lap six, Giddings saw his chance to get by and take third place.

However, Gamble had other ideas, and immediately went on the attack and slipped back past the FML driver going up Clay Hill to take back the position. With Giddings trying his hardest to have another go at passing Gamble, the thought was short lived, as a dislodged bonnet made it extremely difficult to see what was going on.

The effects of the bonnet became known when Sennan Fielding passed Giddings to take fourth position. Luckily for Giddings though, he managed to shake off Max Coates and Brad Bailey.

Coates and Bailey were having their own battle for sixth position, when the two made contact at The Avenue after Bailey got wide on the grass and came back on the attack, sending Coates flying into the Armco barrier at over 80mph, causing considerable damage to the car. Luckily Coates was unhurt.

When the chequered flag dropped at the end of lap 10, Morris crossed the line with an 8.8 second lead ahead of Robertson, who was three seconds clear of Gamble. Fourth to cross the line was Fielding, his best result of the season so far, followed by Giddings in fifth, William Foster in sixth and Bailey in seventh.

Eighth place went to Niall Murray for Beacon Racing, ninth place was to be had by Tollbar Racing’s Howard, and rounding off the top ten was Rollcentre’s Eric Morris.
