Airwaves Look To Extend On Independent Lead
Teams will travel to Oulton Park for the next round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship with the aim of a big points haul but no more so than Airwaves Racing who currently lead the Independent Teams Championship by four points.
Mat Jackson, who is the one of only two drivers this season to have finished all 9 races in the top ten, will be looking to go one step further this weekend after he narrowly missed out on his second win of the season last time out at Thruxton. Despite that Mat will be encouraged by the performance that he showed which took him a 6th, 5th and 2nd place finish at the Thruxton circuit.
Mat, in his turbo powered Airwaves Racing Ford Focus, will be going all out to win at the Cheshire circuit in a bid build on his strong performances so far this season which sees him lead the Independent Driver Championship ahead of James Nash.
“Oulton Park is one of my favourite circuits on the BTCC calendar and where I took my first win in the BTCC back in 2007; let’s hope we can make it win number 14 on Sunday,” said the Henley-in-Arden racer.
“Since our last race at Thruxton we have used the long break to reflect on our performance in the first three rounds and try to extract a little more from the car, which I think is essential going into Oulton Park since the latest TOCA rule change will see the normally aspirated car of Plato 62kg lighter than us, which around Oulton Park will really hurt us due to the rollercoaster nature of the circuit.”
Mat Jackson’s team-mate, Liam Griffin, is also a fan of the Cheshire circuit and will be hoping for points finishes this weekend to go with his 9th place finish he achieved at Donington Park earlier in the season.
“After a hectic start to the season this has been quite a nice break to regroup and get things in perspective,” said Griffin.
“Oulton Park is one of my favourite circuits and when combined with a growing confidence in the car and three rounds worth of BTCC experience I am hopeful that I can have a good weekend. I think the TOCA approach so far to equalisation is a sensible one as long as it does not become a case of he who shouts loudest gets his own way!”
