Tech-Speed Looking For Points At Oulton Park
The GoMobileUK.com with Tech-Speed Motorsport team will be looking at bouncing firmly back into the points at Oulton Park having left Thruxton empty handed last time out.
The high speed Thruxton circuit played into the hands of the turbo engined teams, but the S2000 Chevrolet Cruze run by the team has been given a weight adjustment by the series organisers in a move designed to bring about some parity in performance with the turbo cars. The extent of the effect this weight shedding will have remains to be seen, but Paul O’ Neill heads into his home race still inside the top 10 in the overall standings, and inside the top 6 independent drivers.
The team have been working hard during the break between Thruxton and Oulton Park, and O’Neill is looking to take full advantage of their efforts this weekend.
“If we can get the weight out of the car that we are now allowed to take out, then that is going to help us move up a few places in qualifying and get into the top ten,” he said. “Then we can focus on building on that in the races. The lower base weight is a start, but we found a few things on the car that we wanted to look at and the guys have worked hard to make some changes ahead of the weekend. I’m sure the car will be mint and it’s going to be interesting to see what impact those changes have when we hit the track.”
“Oulton Park is my home track and I do a lot of work there so I’m keen to see what we can do this weekend. I want to put on a good show and it’s vital that we have a good weekend. We can’t afford to have another weekend like Thruxton, and we won’t have another one like that.”
Team-mate John George also enters Oulton Park with a degree of confidence, having shown strong pace at last years meeting while driving the BTC spec Honda Integra. His focus though is to continue the progress made so far this season in the Cruze.
“I did well at Oulton Park last season and I’m looking forward to getting back out on track this weekend,” he said. “While we have been told we can take some weight out of the car, it isn’t going to close the gap to the turbos, but I’ll go into the weekend looking to do the best that I can. Hopefully, things will go better than at Thruxton and my aim is to challenge the other S2000 cars and try and to make progress in each of the races.”
Tech-Speed boss Marvin Humphries added; “We’ve had good results at Oulton Park in the past and we hope to do a good job again this weekend. I’m not sure how much of the weight we can get out of the car to get down to the new base weight, but it isn’t going to have a massive effect compared to the turbo cars. We need to wait and see when we get on track but we are optimistic about Oulton Park and will give it our best shot.”
The GoMobileUK.com with TechSpeed team currently site 8th in the Team’s Trophy and 5th in the Independents standings. With Paul O’Neill’s local connections, they will be expecting a lot of support this weekend from the fans in attendance.
