Morris fights back to win round six at Thruxton

Seb Morris

Seb Morris shows he has not lost his winning ways, as he takes the chequered flag to win round six at Thruxton.

Just like race one, George Gamble and Morris battled hard throughout the race, but Gamble just could not defeat Morris to make it two wins for the weekend.

Gamble started the race from pole position, and kept his position when the race began. He made a good getaway, making sure Morris kept behind him. As for Max Coates however, who started from fourth place, he overtook Struan Moore, then had a sneaky look up the inside of Morris in the first corner to make sure his presence was known.

Brad Bailey managed to overtake Moore too on the opening lap, putting him in fourth position behind Coates. As for Myles Collins, who had a storming start off the line in the first race, wasn’t as successful in the second, but managed to hold on to his sixth position.

As they went into lap two, Collins’ chances of catching up with the front runners soon came to an abrupt end, as he took it too wide on the kerbs and spun the car. This meant that Tom Howard could slip into sixth position, who was coming under attack from Charlie Robertson who was running in seventh place.

As the race moved into lap three, there was plenty of action going on behind the three front runners Gamble, Morris and Coates. Moore tried to attack Bailey for fourth place, while Mikey Day saw an opportunity to sneak past his team-mate Robertson. However, the HHC pair switched positions on the following lap.

By lap six, Morris had upped the pace, breaking the current lap record, putting in a time of 1m30.969 seconds. But where Morris would be eating into Gamble’s lead at Goodwood, Village and Church, Gamble had the advantage through the chicane. By this point the front two had yet again pulled out a lead over the other drivers, with Coates over two seconds behind.

As the leading pair were battling for position on lap seven, only 0.2 seconds separated them, and as they ran nose to tail, Morris saw his opportunity and shot down the side of Gamble to gain the lead.

As for the other drivers on the track, Moore and Robertson got a bit out of shape, and found themselves running wide on the grass, putting them both back down the pack. Things got even worse for Moore, when he had a spin at the chicane, followed by contact, which ended his race.

As the race came into its final stages, Gamble tried to repeat what he had done in the previous race, but it was not to be, and Morris took the chequered flag with a lead of 0.4 seconds over Gamble. Third place was taken again by Coates, who had another fantastic race.

Fourth place went to Bailey, which was another pleasing result for him and his team TJ Motorsport, fifth went to Howard, and sixth place went to Day, his best finish in the season yet.

As for Collins, who had a spin from sixth position, he recovered well finished in 11th place.
