Honda Racing took full advantage of the high speed Thruxton circuit by taking two 1-2 finishes in the first two races at Thruxton in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.

Both Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden took a win a piece to extend Honda Racing’s lead in the teams championship with both drivers coming away as the biggest point scorers of the weekend.

“I am over the moon,” said Neal. “Considering that we were told to run with less power by the series officials before we came to this meeting, a win for Flash and a win for me is amazing. It is perfect for the team.”

Two-time British Touring Car Championship Champion, Matt Neal, now heads the championship after three rounds by 12 points ahead of Mat Jackson. He went on to say, “The championship is so competitive and everyone’s always improving. The car has been totally hooked up this weekend and I really couldn’t fault it.”

Gordon Shedden in the second of the Honda Civic’s managed to shrug away the bad luck which has riddled the start of his season to take the first win of the day from pole position and then to follow that up with a second place finish in race two.

“I needed three solid points finishes to really kick start my campaign – but the fact that Matt scored as much as me means the gap is still the same to him,” said Shedden. “It has put me back in the hunt though.”

“Given all the controversy building up to this weekend, these results show that we have got our heads down and got on with the work we needed to do, which is really pleasing. It is a testament to the team that they have built a really good race car and we are reaping the rewards of the hard work that everybody has put in to this programme.

Gordon Shedden now sit’s 5th in the championship after taking 35 points from the third round of the season.
