Matt Neal continued the Honda Racing dominance at Thruxton with his third win of the season in the second race of the day at Thruxton.

Starting from second on the grid, Neal with the lighter Honda Civic, took just 5 laps to dispossess his team-mate, Gordon Shedden, after hounding him ever since the opening lap to take Honda’s second win of the day.

Andrew Jordan went one better than his finishing position in race one and in turn took the second spot on the podium. Jordan got a good start off the line but had to wait until lap 11 till he could overtake the Honda Civic of Gordon Shedden who had the maximum success ballast from race one.

The last step on the podium was taken by race one winner, Gordon Shedden who managed to defend his position well from the chasing Ford Focus of Tom Chilton to make it the same three drivers on the podium from race one.

Jackson and Nash crossed the line almost side by side with the gap being just 0.060. The pair endured a momental battle for what seemed the entire of the race but in the end it was Jackson who took 5th place ahead of former Championship leader, James Nash.

7th and 8th was occupied by the two Silverline Chevrolet Cruze’s of Alex MacDowall and Jason Plato and it was the youngster that came out on top. MacDowall, who set the fastest lap of the race, came from 10th on the grid to finish ahead of the two-time BTCC champion.

Despite being beaten by his team-mate, Plato will be pleased with his performance after starting the race from the back of the grid after his race one DNF. Plato had already moved up to 12th after the opening lap before making up another 4 places before the chequered flag.

The final two points positions were taken by Tom Boardman in the Special Tuningt Racing SEAT Leon and Tony Gilham in the 2nd of the Triple Eight Engineering Vauxhall Vectra’s.

If there was to be an award for the ‘best display of driving skill’ it would have had to go to Tom Boardman who, on lap 1, held a mammoth slide around the Goodwood corner only to lose out on multiple positions after starting the race in 5th.

Only 18 cars took to the grid for the second race of the day with the two NGTC cars of Wrathall and Austin failing to make it as well as the AmD Milltek Racing Golf of Tom Onslow-Cole who had a exhaust manifold problem.

Tom Boardman will start from pole with Jason Plato on 2nd after the top nine cars are reversed for the final race of the day.

EDIT: Andrew Jordan has been handed a 1.3s penalty after he was adjudged to have gained an unfair advantage during race three. The penalty demotes Jordan to third and in turn hands Shedden the 2nd place finish.
