MacDowall Confident Ahead Of High Speed Thruxton
After three points finishes at Donington Park, Alex MacDowall is feeling confident of getting his season back on track as they head to Thruxton for the third round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.
The BRDC Superstar is currently ninth in the driver standings in his works Chevrolet Cruze but he thinks that the handling of the S2000 car will pay dividends next time out.
“Thruxton will definitely suit our car better than Donington”, said Alex, “Over a single lap though, the turbos will still have a big advantage. The Chevrolet Cruze is a great handling chassis and has a good balance in high speed corners which should really help on the fastest parts of the track.”
Thruxton is renown for being hard on the tyres with Dunlop preparing a special compound for the race meeting. Last year saw a number of drivers suffer including both Chilton and Shedden both having high speed crashes due to blown tyres.
“Obviously, Thruxton is also notorious for punctures – even with a normally aspirated car like the Chevy – so while we try and fine tune the car during free practice, the turbo cars will have to focus on race runs a bit more. My aim at the moment is to again be the top-scoring Chevrolet driver and the best scorer in a normally aspirated car, as I was at Donington last weekend.”
