Chilton: “We Made Big Improvements”
Tom Chilton went into yesterday’s test session at Snetterton having only driven the new 2011 Ford Focus only once previously but soon got to work with improving the setup on the car on the new Snetterton 300 layout.
Speaking to BTCC Crazy, Chilton said, “We purely worked on the rear end of the car today. We feel we’ve found the perfect combination and next time out we’ll look to work on the front end of the car.”
The morning session didn’t go totally to plan for Chilton who could only manage a time of 2:01.043 which was only good enough to put him 6th out of the 8 cars on track but came out in the afternoon with a much better setup and improved his laptime by two seconds.
“We made big improvements today. The tyre life is promising which is one of the things that we’ve been working on over the winter and today we were able to do two full race runs on the same set of tyres”
Team AON will be using the NGTC-turbo engine this year developed by Mountune who prepared the LPG engine for them last season with the only change being the move to petrol instead of the highly controversial liquid-petroleum gas.
Speaking about the engine Chilton commented. “It’s a lot better than last year. I Wish I had it last year as I would have won by miles.”
Team Aon are yet to announce their driver list for this season but look to do so at Media Day next Thursday when the teams head to Silverstone for the first official test session of the year.
