Wood To Race Integra Despite Weight Penalty
Lea Wood, who made his debut in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship last season is returning to the series for his second consecutive season.
Wood will be using the BTC-spec Honda Integra which he used last season despite having to incur the weight penalties brought on by using the dated car. A +50kg weight penalty will be added to the car for the duration of the season after Alan Gow, series director, made a U-turn to allow the BTC-spec cars for one further season.
“We choose to use the Integra as we know the car very well after running the car last year and we would rather take the weight penalty than try and learn something new that could give alot of teething problems,” said Greg Wood from Team Wood Racing.
“When you work on a tight budget as we do we felt there wasn’t many cars available to us that would still be as fast as the Integra.”
Lea Wood contesting in seven of the ten rounds last season, narrowly missing out on top ten finishes on three occasions when he finished in 11th at Brands Hatch, Oulton Park and Donington Park.
Greg went on to say, We’ve stripped a lot of weight out the car which was down to poor maintanence before we had it so we can get it on to the limit and then put our ballast back where we want to which will help us. With all the new cars on the grid that could have there fair share of gremlins we hope our reliability will help pick up some top 10 finishes.”
The teams travel to Silverstone for the BTCC Media Day on March 24th before heading to Brands Hatch for the first round of the season on April 3rd/4th.
