Number Moved For 2011 Season
The Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship will have a new look for this season as they move the numbers to a new location on the cars.
For the 2011 season teams will be running with yellow race numbers on the rear side windows above the drivers name. The move is in a bid to free up more advertising space for teams aswell as letting them be more creative with their liveries with the removal of the white number board of previous seasons.
“This is something our teams requested unanimously so as to add even greater value for those companies investing in their BTCC programmes and it made perfect sense to us,” said Alan Gow, series director for the BTCC.
“As well, it provides marshals, spectators and TV audiences alike with clearer and better identification of the cars… quite obviously the numbers stand out more distinctly than before and are now also on the front and rear screens.
The new look of the race cars can be seen on Shaun Hollamby’s VW Golf which is to be entered this season. His car was on display for all to see last week at the Autosport International show in Birmingham.
This new look has already sparked a mixed review from the BTCC fans with many calling it a bad move even before the season has started.
The first chance for you to get to see the cars in the flesh will be Media Day, a week before the action starts at Brands Hatch. Silverstone will be hosting Media Day this year on Thursday 24th March with public access available from 1pm.
